I named Consensus Buddhism that partly because it discourages dissent. Disagreement is not nice, and Consensus Buddhism is very nice. Unless you happen to disagree with it.
Suppression of dissent was partly well-meaning. Religious disagreement can get extremely nasty. However, skillful discussion of differences may instead generate mutual respect and understanding.
